Best Honeymoon Resorts in Indonesia: 11 Properties We Genuinely Recommend
Eleven Indonesia honeymoon resorts. The why for each one.
Most ‘best of’ lists are paid placement. We’ve stayed in every property below, repeatedly, with our own clients. Here’s the actual list. (See Indonesia.travel official for context.)

There are roughly 600 resorts marketing themselves as honeymoon destinations across Bali, Lombok, Komodo, and Sulawesi. Most are perfectly fine. Eleven of them are great. Here’s the list, with the honest case for each.
Bali — clifftop and inland
1. Bvlgari Resort Bali, Uluwatu. The cleanest design language, the most reliable service, no amateur hour. Two-bedroom cliff villas if your budget allows. The brand carries the experience exactly as you’d expect Bvlgari to. Best for: couples who care about design more than swimming.
2. Six Senses Uluwatu. Newer, more rambunctious than Bvlgari, more activity-driven (yoga, surfing, watsu). Better food than Bvlgari by a margin. Best for: active couples in their 30s.
3. Capella Ubud. 22 tents, riverside, fully forested. Theatrical luxury. Best for: couples who’ve been everywhere and want to feel like they’re in a different category.
4. Como Shambhala Estate, Ubud. Wellness-led. The food is genuinely thoughtful (most Como properties’ food disappoints — this one doesn’t). Best for: couples who want spa + diet structure as the core of the trip.
5. Bambu Indah, Sayan. Architecturally radical. Reclaimed Javanese houses set into a river valley. Not for everyone — bathrooms are open-air, no AC in some rooms. Best for: design-curious couples comfortable with rustic.
Komodo — boutique resorts
6. Plataran Komodo Resort. The only premium beachfront resort in the National Park. Direct boat access from your villa. Best for: couples who want a Komodo experience without committing to a phinisi liveaboard.
7. AYANA Komodo Waecicu. Bigger, more amenity-rich. New brand integration with the Bali AYANA. Best for: couples who’d find Plataran too small.
Lombok and Gilis
8. Sudamala Suites Senggigi. Quietly excellent. Beachfront, mid-tier pricing, food is consistently good. Best for: couples who want Lombok without overpaying for the Mandalika cluster.
9. Hotel Tugu Lombok. Cultural property, antiques and Indonesian art. Owner-operated. Best for: couples who’d rather feel a place’s history than be in a five-star bubble.
The Spice Islands and Sumba
10. Nihi Sumba. If you only know one thing about Indonesian honeymoons, you’ve heard of Nihi. It deserves the reputation. The Spa Safari, the surf, the staff training — everything is at the level it claims. Best for: couples who can spend $2,500-$5,000/night and want the trip to be “the one we’ll talk about for 20 years.”
11. Cika Cika, Banda Neira. A 6-room boutique guesthouse. Not luxury, but memorable. We send couples here as the second leg of a Bali-then-Spice-Islands trip. Best for: adventurous couples who’ve already done the standard Bali honeymoon and want their next trip to feel like they’re somewhere nobody else they know has been.
Resorts we don’t recommend (unsolicited honesty)
A few well-marketed properties consistently disappoint our clients. We’d rather you know up front: the Mulia Bali (overpriced for what it is), Hard Rock Bali (not a honeymoon property), and most “private island resort” claims around the Gilis (mostly day-trip beach clubs with one overnight room).

Why Indonesia is the quintessential choice for your romantic escape
Imagine the soft whisper of the Indian Ocean against a pristine white-sand beach, the intoxicating scent of frangipani carried on a gentle breeze, and the vibrant hues of a sunset painting the sky in fiery oranges and purples. This is the daily canvas of an Indonesian honeymoon, a destination that transcends the ordinary to offer an unparalleled blend of natural beauty, profound cultural immersion, and world-class luxury. Beyond the allure of its celebrated resorts, Indonesia beckons with an authenticity that touches the soul, making it an idyllic setting for couples to begin their journey together.
What truly sets Indonesia apart is its astonishing diversity. Comprising over 17,500 islands, this archipelago offers an endless mix of experiences, from the spiritual serenity of Bali’s rice paddies and ancient temples to the rugged, untamed landscapes of Sumba, and the dramatic volcanic vistas of Java. Each island presents a unique character, ensuring that your honeymoon can be as dynamic or as tranquil as you desire. The warmth of Indonesian hospitality, known for its genuine smiles and attentive service, elevates every moment, transforming a simple stay into a cherished memory.
Couples seeking more than just a beautiful backdrop will find a rich cultural heritage waiting to be explored. Engage in a traditional Balinese cooking class, witness an ancient dance performance under a star-studded sky, or partake in a purification ceremony at a sacred water temple. This deep connection to local traditions, combined with the striking natural environment, creates an ephemeral magic that few other destinations can rival. It’s a place where luxury meets soulfulness, crafting a romantic narrative that is uniquely yours.
Crafting your multi-island indonesia honeymoon itinerary
While Bali often takes center stage for Indonesian honeymoons, the true magic of the archipelago lies in its potential for multi-island exploration. Imagine seamlessly transitioning from the vibrant energy of Seminyak to the untouched tranquility of a remote island, or from a luxurious jungle retreat to an adventurous dive expedition. Designing a multi-island itinerary allows you to experience the diverse facets of Indonesia, creating a honeymoon that is rich in contrast and tailored to your shared passions.
Consider pairing the spiritual heartland of Ubud, Bali, with the pristine beaches and Gili Islands charm of Lombok, just a short 30-minute flight away. For the more adventurous couple, combine a luxurious stay in Bali with a journey to Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you can encounter the legendary Komodo dragons and snorkel in crystal-clear waters teeming with marine life; flights from Bali to Labuan Bajo typically take around 1.5 hours. For an ultra-exclusive escape, venture to Sumba, renowned for its rugged beauty and unparalleled barefoot luxury resorts, offering an experience that feels truly off-the-grid.
When planning your multi-island adventure, allow ample time for travel and relaxation. A minimum of 10 to 14 days is ideal to comfortably experience two or three islands without feeling rushed. Leverage domestic airlines like Garuda Indonesia or Citilink for efficient inter-island travel, and consider working with a specialist travel designer who can meticulously plan logistics, ensuring smooth transitions and bespoke experiences. memorable experiences for two: beyond the resort gates
Beyond the opulent confines of your resort, Indonesia offers a collection of romantic experiences designed to deepen your connection and create lasting memories. Start your day with a sunrise hike up Mount Batur in Bali, watching the first light illuminate the volcanic landscape hand-in-hand, followed by a rejuvenating hot spring dip. Indulge in a couples’ spa treatment featuring traditional Indonesian remedies, using local herbs and essential oils, often set in striking natural surroundings like a jungle ravine or overlooking the ocean.
For culinary enthusiasts, a private cooking class focusing on authentic Indonesian cuisine provides a delicious and interactive way to bond. Learn to prepare aromatic dishes like Nasi Goreng or Satay, then savor your creations together. Adventure-seeking duos can explore vibrant coral reefs through snorkeling or diving excursions in places like Raja Ampat or Menjangan Island, encountering a spectacular range of marine biodiversity. Or, begin a private charter boat for a sunset cruise, complete with champagne and canapés, drifting past dramatic cliffs and secluded coves.
Cultural immersion offers another layer of richness to your honeymoon. Visit the majestic Borobudur Temple, a 9th-century Buddhist monument and a UNESCO World Heritage site in Central Java, where you can marvel at its intricate carvings and soak in the spiritual ambiance. Or, spend a day volunteering at a local conservation project, perhaps planting coral or assisting at an animal sanctuary, to give back to the beautiful environment that hosts your journey. These shared, meaningful experiences are what transform a luxury trip into an memorable romantic odyssey.
